The strategy: Try to build up to five or six days a week of aerobic exercise, 30 to 60 minutes per session. When shedding weight is the priority (why build muscle if you’re going to conceal it under a layer of flab?), your main focus should be aerobic work and calorie monitoring. “A low- or moderate-calorie diet and a lot of cardio time will drop the pounds,” says Rubenstein. “But remember, some of that weight loss will inevitably be muscle tissue.”
Watch out: Hours of weekly endurance work will trigger a duster of metabolic adaptations that tend to deflate and weaken those strength-and-power fast-twitch muscle fibers, making it harder to lift heavy weights. Meanwhile, your smaller, conditioning-oriented slow-twitch fibers will take on a more dominant role.
The bottom line: Find time to hit the weights. How often? You won’t lose too much muscle as long as you fit two moderate weight-training sessions a week around all those cardio workouts. Schedule one to three days between weight workouts (Wednesday and Saturday, for example). Target both the upper body and the lower body each session.

I run at the gym a few times a week, here are the specifics from the machine for me. Hopefully it will give you an idea of what it takes to burn calories.
Time: 30 minutes.
My weight: 175 lbs.
My age: 23.
Heart Rate: 158 bpm.
Distance: ~ 3.25 miles.
Calories / hour: ~ 900.
To lose 1 lb a week, you need to burn 500 calories more than you eat each day. So for someone like myself who consumes a good sized lunch and eats dinner late and occasionally has two or six beers, you have to bust your butt on the treadmill!

That depends on your caloric intake. It’s impossible for anyone to quote a number without this vital piece of information.
Most treadmills (and other gym machines) have a caloric burning feature on it which will tell you how many calories you’ve burned based on the rate and incline you’re going.
Keep a journal of all of your food/drink intake. The very simple equation is:
calorie intake > calorie burning = fat gain
calorie intake < calorie burning = fat loss
But remember that muscle weighs more than fat so if you don’t see a difference right away on the scale – don’t despair.

If your struggling with belly fat you must be struggling elsewhere also.Fat disapears evenly from all over the body.
You dont need to do loads of cardio. You just put the body under duress. Unless of course you are a pro athlete and your not .
To burn body fat requires a little common sense.
If, for instance you eat a piece of apple pie containing 350 cals it requires only 100 cals to digest and burn. The 250 extra cals get stored as fat.
An apple containing 65 cals still requires 100 cals to burn and takes the 35 cals from your fat.
Take a look at http://fit-n-fat.blogspot.com great information.
Take care
