I am a 37 y.o. male and 5′ 11″ (180cm). I have been slightly (and from time to time fairly) overweight all my life and was never felt very good about my body. Last year I decided enough is enough and set some fitness goals. I have been swimming and doing workouts at home. I changed my eating habbits. I got my weight down (very slowly) to 172 lb (78kg) and I am very close to my goal of leveling at 166 lb (75kg). I am happy with my progress but there is one thing that bothers me. There is a thick layer of saggy fat over my lower abs that just does not want to go away no matter what my weight is. I have been told to do ab work outs. But then someone else told me that you can not lose fat from any specific area by working that area and that your body decides which fat reserve to burn as you create the calory deficit. So I could be doing sit ups all my life and still keep the belly fat? I am confused and need help. Thanks in advance.

Ab works helps your muscles grow. But you will not beable to see it because the fat covers it. It is better to continue what you are doing. It sounds to me like it will go slowly but surely.
The only thing I can suggest is burn off more energy and it will go quicker.
Good luck.
If you are being true to diet and exercise I don’t see anything wrong with getting cosmetic surgery. You are not taking the easy way out. There is nothing wrong with a little nip, tuck and lipo if you need it for that last little bit.
Tummy tuck
Lipo.
I had the same problem.I found that increasing my cardio exercise will help burn off the fat.Its true,I never thought that I would ever shrink that bulde under my navel but it is finally shrinking.I can finally see some definition in my abs after all the crunches Ive done through the years.Be patient, try more cardio,it should help.
