Im Pretty Skinny, But I Have A Little Extra Fat. Build Muscle Then Go On And Burn Fat? Or Lose My Fat First?
Im fairly skinny. Size 32″-34″ pants 17 years old, about 145-150 pounds and 6ft tall.
I have a little fat though on my stomach and I can see it very slightly lately on my chin, only ever so slightly though. No one would call me fat I don’t think. Most people call me skinny
.
Anyway, I go to the gym about 2 or 3 times a week and was wondering if I should focus mainly on my weight training program to build muscle and build up and then 3 months or so down the line or when I see fit go on to do cardio based excersise and burn fat? Or vice versa?
Thanks

You’d be better off building muscle first since you aren’t really overweight. You’ll be surprised how the bodyfat disappears as you gain muscle when you’re not overweight. If you were severely obese then I’d say shoot for reducing max bodyfat first with a combination of weight training and cardio.
So, if I were in your shoes I’d start weight training as my primary workout – weights should always be done first regardless. You can do cardio too if you want, just don’t go to crazy with it our you’ll slow the muscle gains (most bodybuilders in the muscle gaining phases cut out cardio entirely). As you build muscle your metabolism will raise and most of the unwanted bodyfat should start disappearing (assuming your diet is in order as well and reflects the extra activity).
As you advance, you can add some cardio to it if you want, maybe 2-3 times a week to supplement weight training. If your weight training is intense enough that will stress the cardio system quite a bit as well so it’s up to you what you want to do. Personally, I normally do 2 days of high intensity interval cardio for 15-20 minutes, usually sprints – this helps raise GH levels and enhances my bodybuilding. This is for my gaining phases believe it or not.

as you work out the fat will gradually turn into muscle.

The best exercise program combines both cardio and weight training. If you go to the gym 2-3 times a week, I would say it’s safe to do both cardio and weight training on those days, and maybe consider going for a walk 1 or two of the days you are not at the gym, so you have 4-5 days of cardio to 2-3 days of weight training. Also, the more muscle mass you have, the more fat you will burn.

Keep doing weight training…actually I recommend trying to do it 4 or 5 times a week. The little bit of fat you have can be worked off by doing weight training, and eating correctly. If you have a clean diet you’ll lose it no time. Also you can do some light cardio if you want. But I would recommend doing supersets to burn out and really get your heart pumping.
