Does Running Burn Fat Or Turn It Into Muscle?
I am unhappy about the fat between my thighs, on my hips and on my stomach. If I run, will the fat on my legs turn to muscle, or will it just go away? I want skinny legs, not built up ones. If running builds up muscle, then what activities can I do to get rid of the fat? Thank you!

running burns calories. running will not build muscle for the most part. and you cannot target fat loss so running will help you lose overall fat around your body, not just in your legs.
once again, it is IMPOSSIBLE to target fat loss.

It is impossible to turn fat into muscle. It doesn’t happen. Fat is a storage mechanism of the body, and muscle is a fibrous tissue. It’s like saying you want to turn grass into stone.
Any cardio activity done for a sufficient length of time will burn fat. There have been conflicting reports that the body will burn fat better at specific heart rates, but those have been proven recently to be false.
The most important thing to do to burn fat is to do any sort of cardio activity that raises your heart rate. Running is a great way to do this. Over time, running will help build muscles in your legs. The more muscle you have in your body, the easier it will be to lose weight because your body will have to spend more calories to maintain itself.

Running burns fat by taking the adipose stores (fat) in your body and converting it into energy. But, this is a last stitch effort for your body to obtained the energy needed for exercise. So, you have to do a lot of exercise to really start burning fat. Plus, it is also important that your workouts are varied so your body doesn’t get to used to one certain exercise.

Muscles is built with proteins. Fat is stored energy. Running long enough may convert some of your fat into energy which is used to move those leg muscles as you run. The running itself will help tone (tighten) your leg muscles.
Any kind of cardio will help you get rid of fat, as long as you are eating a healthy diet designed for weight loss.

Constantly moving for long periods of time is a great fat burner. Otherwise your building muscles if you work your body as hard as possible for maybe 10 or 20 seconds (i.e short sprints). Aerobics is a phenomenal fat burner and so is swimming. It also could have to do with your eating habits. Don’t eat small portions eat a lot of healthy foods and burn them off. But right around this season is perfect for swimming and that’s what i suggest it’ll burn your fat without killing your body.

Fat does not turn to muscle. It is burned for fuel.
Muscle is made (mostly) of protein, which is something very different from fat.
There is no such thing as “spot reducing”. Your body loses fat where it wants to. Exercising your legs won’t make it burn fat from your legs. It WILL tone the muscles in your legs, which will help them be more firm.

I will repeat this to people who keep asking this:You CAN’T turn fat into muscle and VICE VERSA!! However, when doing cardio, you will burn fat and you can gain a little bit of muscle. So, just keep doing cardio, and you will burn off that extra fat.

Running burns calories, so if you can maintain a healthy diet you will burn fat, too. If you run on nearly a daily basis, your legs will get toned & won’t bulk up, so you will have no worries.

personally i think running will make ur thighs bigger – know it did for mine..makes them muscular…doesn’t convert the fat obviously but does build a lot of muscle
swimming – kick boxing, ball room dancing, anything that involves lengthening the muscles will tone without building large amounts of muscle mass

cardio is generally the answer if you want that lean toned look. Right along with a proper diet of course. So yeah running, stadiums, dancing, whatever you can do like that.

Running, and all other aerobic exercises, burn fat. Fat cannot be “turned into muscle.” You body will produce muscle as the result of exercise.

the fat will start to go away after a while. yea you will gain some muscle in your legs but not enough to make you look like a beast or to manly. so yea running will get rid of the fat
November 17th, 2009
Both will occur, but not concerted.
There is no conversion from fat to muscle.
Instead, fat is depleted as energy stores decrease, and muscle forms because of increased demand on them.

it burns off the fat that’s used as energy, then it tones the muscle underneath. vwala.

Running burns fat. Nothing can change fat to muscle or muscle to fat.

Running is cardio so it burns the fat. Building up the muscles would require workouts like squatjumps etc.

Nothing you do can turn fat into muscle. Running will begin to burn fat allover and then build muscle only in your legs.

mostly burns fat, unless you do extra work like go uphill or run with weights
