Well any cardio that gets your heart rate pumping will work fine. The important thing about cardio is that you are keeping your heart rate at about 50-75% of its max to stimulate the most adrenaline and noradrenaline which help promote burning fat for fuel. Its not necessarily how many calories you burn during the exercise but what it does for your system for the hours to come after. If you workout for about 60 minutes straight then your metabolism will be elevated for up to the next 7 hours causing you to burn more calories when you are running your daily life. So instead of your body naturally burning say 60 calories an hour you will be burning 75-90 calories and hour. This is a little jump but it adds up as you go.
If you do not want to run I personally like biking or swimming. Both of these exercises are easy on your joints. With biking you can simply do this while watching your favorite episode on television, there is little concentration that has to be put into it. With swimming this will be the most intense cardio and will really get your whole body working. This will also however require you to leave the house and find a facility where you can swim at. It may not be as convenient.
Good Luck.
